Me llamo Nadia, esta es mi seña personal. En el trayecto feminista en toda la historia la verdad es que nunca hubo accesibilidad en Lengua de Señas Argentina ni subtítulos.
Antes de que existiera MOSFA, el año pasado previo al 8 de Marzo, Día Internacional de la Mujer, el movimiento feminista convocó asambleas para organizar la marcha. Asistíamos muchas personas y nos reuníamos una vez por semana, ahí había intérpretes de LSA-E (Lengua de Señas Argentina-Español).
Las feministas sordas se encuentran
Antes de juntarnos, nosotres estábamos soles, no nos conocíamos. Fuimos a las reuniones por separado y ahí empezamos a vernos, y nos dimos cuenta de que éramos varias mujeres sordas y nos unimos porque teníamos el mismo interés por el feminismo. Así surgió este movimiento.
A partir de ahí nos dimos cuenta de que debíamos militar, ir a las asambleas y a las marchas para que las personas oyentes empezaran a vernos y reconocernos como movimiento.
Crear un movimiento de sordas feministas accesible
Gracias a nuestra presencia constante, poco a
poco las personas oyentes tomaron conciencia y se
dieron cuenta de que nosotres necesitábamos
accesibilidad a la información.
Diferentes grupos feministas organizan una asamblea,
una actividad, ya saben qué hacer, se acuerdan
de que necesitamos intérpretes y nos piden contactos
para contratar ILSA-E y nosotres se los pasamos.
Eso es muy lindo, pero igual hay un gran problema que continúa…
el trabajo de les intérpretes no es gratuito
y nosotras, las personas sordas, tenemos que pagar de nuestros bolsillos para poder acceder a la información, la situación es muy compleja el Estado nos ignora y no nos garantiza accesibilidad.
Entonces nosotres organizamos fiestas, vendemos pañuelos y remeras para poder recaudar dinero para poder pagar a les ILSA-E. Algunos grupos de personas oyentes pueden pagar a les ILSA-E, pero otros no tienen dinero, entonces es muy difícil.
En Argentina, en algunos organismos público del gobierno, hay intérprete. Pero solamente en algunos lugares del gobierno, en lugares privados no hay.
Pero cuando queremos participar de alguna actividad o movida artística, ir al cine, a charlas o talleres no hay intérpretes, porque el Estado no nos garantiza el derecho.

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre el feminismo y transfeminismo? Tamara Cordovani
Me llamo Tamara, esta es mi seña personal.
Desde el momento en que nacemos, si le bebé tiene pene, se le etiqueta como hombre y si le bebé tiene vagina, se le etiqueta como mujer.
¿Quién asigna estas etiquetas? Les medicxs.
Les médicxs representan a la sociedad, una sociedad
que funciona como un sistema heterocispatriarcal.
Este término significa que la sociedad es binaria,
porque solo acepta dos géneros: masculino y femenino…
Pero esta división binaria es inadecuada, porque también hay personas que tienen pene pero se sienten identificadas como mujer, como si tuvieran vagina;
entonces su cuerpo y lo que sienten entran en contradicción con el mandato social.
Históricamente el género masculino ha tenido más privilegios que el género femenino, y ha habido desigualdad laboral, económica, educativa, política y social. El feminismo viene luchando para lograr la
igualdad de derechos y oportunidades para todes,
y para que se termine la discriminación, la violencia de género y la opresión.
Entonces lucha para que podamos ser libres, ser libres de pensar y reflexionar, ser libres de decidir sobre nuestros cuerpos,
Diversidad de género dentro del feminismo
Nosotres le ponemos el cuerpo a la lucha para que la sociedad nos vea y nos reconozca. Pero dentro del feminismo hay un grupo que no reconoce la diversidad de género no reconoce que hay diferentes identidades de género que son oprimidas y discriminadas: personas trans, travestis, no binaries. Estos grupos también luchan contra la discriminación, la violencia de género y la opresión entonces ahí se dividen en dos y aparece el movimiento transfeminista y queer, que buscar ser más amplio, más inclusivo. Y que también lucha contra la sociedad heterocispatriarcal.
Dentro de MOSFA, además de personas sordas también
hay personas trans, travestis y no binaries, queer.
El movimiento tiene que ser abierto para todes, por
eso nosotres defendemos el movimiento transfeminista.

Nosotres aprendemos gracias a que leemos diferentes textos por nuestra cuenta, y luego conversamos y compartimos la información, y gracias a que nos invitan a jornadas, talleres y actividades relacionadas con el feminismo, como por ejemplo, sobre aborto, la falta de cumplimiento de derechos de la mujer.
También nosotres vamos para que nos vean, para hablar y exponer nuestros reclamos sobre la falta de accesibilidad, y la necesidad de que elles convoquen intérpretes.
Nos gusta producir videos que expliquen sobre temas del feminismo como por ejemplo, el de los fundamentos de la ley de aborto, y otros temas. Buscamos transmitir una forma de pensar más abierta sobre el género, que
no se trata solamente hombres o mujeres, hay más identidades diferentes.
Nosotres trabajamos, estudiamos y además militamos al mismo tiempo y es un trabajo
muy difícil porque requiere de mucha atención y no tenemos mucho tiempo.

Hay abuso, hay violencia y las mujeres sordas no pueden abortar. ¿Qué exigen al movimiento feminista de Argentina, y del mundo?

A lo largo de la historia el movimiento feminista ha luchado y conquistado derechos como el voto femenino, matrimonio igualitario, acceso a puestos de trabajo y
a cargos públicos en el gobierno para las mujeres.
Estos derechos se lograron gracias al feminismo.
Hoy le pedimos al feminismo que continúe la lucha y que sea abierto.
Un movimiento feminista sordo para todos
Porque hay comunidades minorizadas y apartadas,
grupos de personas indígenas, afrodescendientes, ciegas, sordas, usuarias de sillas de ruedas, etc. que son discriminadas y sufren violencia. Pero no solamente las mujeres, también las personas trans, no binaries, travestis.
Por eso pedimos que el femenismo nos incluya a todes.
Hay que abrir el movimiento, para que seamos más. Si
somos más, vamos a tener más fuerza para empoderarnos.
Necesitamos luchar juntes y unides, por eso pedimos
que se abra y permita la participación de todes.
También desde la comunidad sorda, pedimos información accesible en LSA y subtítulos intérpretes de LSA-E en los medios de comunicación e intérpretes en espacios públicos relacionados con el trabajo, la salud, la educación, en los hospitales, en la justicia.
Necesitamos información 100% accesible. Si hay acceso a información de calidad, podemos empoderarnos y tener confianza para defendernos. Si no hay información, continuaremos oprimides.
Para las mujeres y personas trans, travestis y no binaries es importante recibir información sobre aborto legal, seguro y gratuito, sobre Educación Sexual Integral
eso nos permite conocernos más, ser libres y autónomes para poder defender nuestros derechos.

Deaf Feminists Finding Each Other
Before there was MOSFA, last year before March 8, International Women’s Day, the [deaf] feminist movement convened assemblies to organize the march. We attended many people and met once a week, there were interpreters of LSA-E (Argentine-Spanish Sign Language).
Before we got together, we were alone, we didn’t know each other. We went to the meetings separately and there we began to see each other, and we realized that we were several deaf women and we joined because we had the same interest in feminism. Thus arose this movement. From there we realized that we should be mobilize, go to assemblies and marches so that listeners would begin to see us and recognize us as a movement.
Creating an Accessible Movement
Thanks to our constant presence, little by little the listeners became aware and they realized that we needed we needed accessibility to information. And now when different feminist groups organize an assembly, an activity, they know what to do, they remember that we need interpreters and they ask us for contacts to hire ILSA-E and we pass them on.
That is very nice, but there is still a big problem that continues… the work of the interpreters is not free and we, deaf people, have to pay from our pockets to access the information, the situation is very complex. The State ignores us and does not guarantee us accessibility. So we organize parties, sell scarves and T-shirts to raise money to pay ILSA-E. Some groups of listeners may pay ILSA-E, but others have no money, so it is very difficult.
In Argentina, in some public government agencies, there is an interpreter. But only in some places of government, in private places there is not. But when we want to participate in an artistic activity or movement, going to the movies, talks or workshops there are no interpreters, because the State does not guarantee us the right.
Deaf Feminist Movement and Transfeminism

From the moment we are born, if the baby has a penis, it will be labeled as a man and if the baby has a vagina, he is labeled as a woman. Who assigns these labels? The medical system.
The doctors represent society a society that functions as a hetero-patriarchal system. This term means that society is binary, because it only accepts two genders: male and female… But this binary division is inadequate, because there are also people who have a penis but they feel identified as a woman, as if they had a vagina; then their body and what they feel come into contradiction with the social mandate.
Historically the male gender has had more privileges than the female gender, and there has been labor, economic, educational, political and social inequality. Feminism is struggling to achieve equal rights and opportunities for all, and for the end of discrimination, gender violence and oppression. Then fight so we can be free, be free to think and reflect, be free to decide on our bodies, We put the body to the fight so that society sees us and recognizes us.
Gender Diversity within Deaf Feminist Movement
But within feminism there is a group that does not recognize gender diversity does not recognize that there are different gender identities that are oppressed and discriminated against: trans people, transvestites, non-binaries. these groups also fight against discrimination, gender violence and oppression then there they divide in two and the transfeminist and queer movement appears, to seek to be broader, more inclusive. and that also fights against the hetero-patriarchal society.
Within MOSFA, in addition to deaf people there are also trans people, transvestites and non-binaries, queer. The movement has to be open to everyone, for that we defend the transfeminist movement.
Educating Deaf Community About Deaf Feminist Movement

Luciana Canale: We learn because we read different literary material on our own, and then we talk and share information together, and thanks to the fact that we are invited to conferences, workshops and activities related to feminism, as for example, on abortion, the lack of fulfillment of women’s rights. We also go to be seen, to speak and present our complaints about the lack of accessibility, and the need for them to convene interpreters.
We like to produce videos that explain feminism issues as for example, the fundamentals of abortion law, and other issues. We seek to convey a more open way of thinking about gender, which which is not just men or women, there are more different identities. We work, study and also militate at the same time and it is a very difficult job because it requires a lot of attention and we don’t have much time.
Deaf Feminist Movement Against Patriarchy

Sabrina Grinschpun: Throughout history the feminist movement has fought and won rights such as female voting, equal marriage, access to jobs and to public positions in government for women. These rights were achieved thanks to feminism. Today we ask feminism to continue the struggle and be open. Because there are minority and remote communities, groups of indigenous people, afro-descendants, blind, deaf, users of wheelchairs, etc. They are discriminated against and suffer violence. But not only women, also trans people, not binaries, transvestites. That is why we ask that feminism include us all.
A Deaf Feminist Movement for All
We must open the movement, so that we are more. If we are more, we will have more strength to empower ourselves. We need to fight together and for everyone around us, so we ask that feminist groups be open and allow the participation of everyone.
Also from the deaf community, we ask for accessible information in LSA and subtitles LSA-E interpreters in the media and interpreters in public spaces especially for topics related to work, health, education, hospitals, justice system. We need 100% accessible information. If there is access to quality information, we can empower ourselves and have confidence to defend ourselves. If there is no information, we will continue to fight for it.

Deaf Feminist Movement for Everyone
“We need to fight together and for everyone around us, so we ask that feminist groups be open and allow the participation of everyone.”
MOSFA, @Moviemiento de Sordas Feministas Argentina, a Deaf Feminist collective from Argentina pushes the understanding of feminism to include people of all genders and abilities in their fight against oppressive systems.
Understanding law creates active participants in society: when the law is not accessible, entire communities are left without vital information that impacts their daily lives.
Accessible Information Empowers
MOSFA @Moviemiento de Sordas Feministas Argentina believes that with creating accessible information comes empowerment of groups who have been rejected the privilege to fight their our battles. Since 2018, MOSFA’s primary objective is to create and disseminate informative videos using LSA and with Spanish subtitles on how to have an abortion with Misoprostol, the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy (IVE) Bill, topics of Transfeminism, and inclusive Integral Sexual Education.
Building this awareness to the community is vital, this movement has transcended and gained national interest. With these new-found opportunities, MOSFA continues to be a pioneer for access in LSA and subtitles to guarantee access in all fields of life.
